Which tests must be performed initially?

Initial coagulation testing consists of determination of Quick's time (prothrombin time) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT). These two tests will reveal major abnormalities in the exogenous and endogenous coagulation cascades and in the common coagulation cascade.
